Ambitious, diverse and heavily swayed by extraordinary sound, Fred Hills creates captivating compositions by fusing influences from around the musical world. Inspired to play by the unique and revolutionary musicians that preceded him, Fred Hills incorporates his love of jazz, rock, prog, electronica, world and folk music into his colourful rhythms, melodic ‘open-handed’ beats and delicate guitar-based compositions.
After graduating from the British Institute of Modern Music in Brighton, Fred went on to tour extensively in the UK and Europe with a variety of original groups (The Slytones, Time for T, Ellie Ford & Mara Simpson). Fred’s intuitive cadence has also led him to perform at acclaimed music festivals such as The Great Escape, Bestival, Secret Garden Party, Shambala, Boomtown Fair, Kalternpop (Italy), Meo Sudoeste (Portugal), Camden Rocks and many more. Fred has also enjoyed playing in prestigious venues such as Brighton Dome, Concorde 2, London Forum, Camden Roundhouse and Exeter Phoenix, motivating him to keep writing and enhancing his ability to achieve more complicated measures.
Fred continues to work with established UK artists Ellie Ford & Michael Baker, with releases and tours planned throughout 2020, both in the UK and around Europe. Alongside this, Fred has been hired by songwriter Amy Yon (Warner/Chappell), producer and studio owner Simon Janes and artists Jinnwoo & Liemba for a number of writing and recording sessions (links below).
Following the release of ‘Ketu’, Fred continues to work on his upcoming debut EP, drawing influences from The Cinematic Orchestra, White Denim, Jose Gonzales and others. This has been brought to life through collaborative efforts with producers and sound designers; Alex Barron and Aneek Thapar, who share Fred’s vision to create music and sounds that defy genres and cross traditional boundaries.
